My name is Onifade Zainab Olatundun, and I am a sickle cell warrior. My journey began with a diagnosis of AVN on January 12, 2023, and later, in 2024, I was diagnosed with leg ulcer. These diagnoses brought immense challenges—financial struggles, social stigma, and physical pain. My family and I faced hardship as they borrowed money and struggled to make ends meet, especially after I graduated and my health declined further.
Life became a daily struggle. I often had to beg for food and sometimes had to deal with the reality of being bedridden . But in early 2025, I decided to take a bold step and created a TikTok account to share my story. Through TikTok, I connected with other sickle cell warriors and tried fundraising, although it was tough to raise significant amounts.
Then, I met Meyiwavera. It all started when she posted a video seeking to help a sickle cell warrior, and with the support of my friends and family, we tirelessly tagged her across multiple accounts. Eventually, meyiwavera noticed me and came forward with help. The first day she came to my house she gave me the sum of 150k for my treatment. And took up my case after that , She registered me with a sickle cell foundation, supported my treatment, and even provided financial assistance to my family( with the sum of 200k). She gifted me tools for my talk show, including a phone, a tripod, and LED lights, allowing me to continue sharing my voice and raising awareness. And she supported me with 1.5 million for my health and business
Today, I am grateful for the support, one out of my ulcer is healed and I can finally use both sides to sleep. I can now go out without anyone support. My story is one of struggle, I still live with sickle cell, I still manage my health, I still face challenges but also one of hope and the incredible impact of kindness and community.
