Raising sickle cell awareness in Wuye Ultra modern Market, Abuja.
The STNG Awareness Walk took place on 20th June 2026 at Wuye Ultra modern Market Abuja. As a very important part in the Meyiwa Vera Empowerment Foundation's National Sickle Cell Awareness Campaign, the event targeted the awareness of sickle cell disease, genotype testing & compatibility, preventive health practices and mental health advocacy.
The program attracted a crowd of volunteers, Community Members, Teens, Partner Organizations and other stakeholders. The activities included participant's registration and orientation, wellness session, partner address, awareness chants, media exposure, briefings and the awareness walk itself. They engaged in dialogue on sickle cell & genotype issues, distributing informative pamphlets.
The program also presented health and education forums about living healthy with sickle cell, psychological health, sticking to a regular healthcare plan, and personal life experiences of sickle cell patients.
To wrap up, the Abuja STNG Awareness Walk provided a great platform for public sensitization, community involvement, youth empowerment, advocacy, and partnership development while highlighting the work of the Meyiwa Vera Empowerment Foundation, and encouraging genotype testing through informed decision making.
