Delta State Chapter

The Save the Next Generation Big Walk (Sickle Cell Awareness Walk) was successfully organized by the JPI Delta State Chapter on Saturday, 20th June 2026, in Ughelli, Delta State. This event was a crucial part of activities marking World Sickle Cell Awareness 2026. The campaign aimed to raise awareness about Sickle Cell Disorder (SCD), encourage genotype testing before marriage, and educate the public on preventive measures.

The event brought together volunteers, partner organizations, youth groups, health advocates, and members of the public. Activities included participant registration and an opening briefing, followed by the awareness walk through major roads and strategic locations within Ughelli. Volunteers displayed banners and placards with messages such as "Know Your Genotype," "No Genotype, No Marriage," "Together We Can End Sickle Cell," and "Save the Next Generation". Throughout the walk, volunteers interacted with the public, distributed educational materials, answered questions about SCD, and encouraged genotype testing.

The program also featured educational campaigns, distribution of information materials, and public sensitization. The event successfully mobilized volunteers and partner organizations, increased public awareness on Sickle Cell prevention and genotype testing, and fostered positive engagement with residents across Ughelli.

To conclude, the Save the Next Generation Big Walk in Delta State was a successful public health advocacy initiative that significantly contributed to raising awareness on Sickle Cell Disorder and the importance of genotype testing.
