Plateau State Chapter

The Save The Next Generation (STNG) Sickle Cell Awareness Walk was held on 20 June 2026 in Jos, Plateau State, along the route from Old Airport Junction to the Plateau State Secretariat. Organized by the Meyiwa Vera Empowerment Foundation in collaboration with partners and volunteers, the event focused on raising awareness about sickle cell disease, promoting genotype testing and compatibility, reducing stigma, and encouraging informed health decisions.

The event began with registration and participant briefing, followed by the awareness walk. Participants engaged the public through advocacy and awareness activities, after which a health talk and free genotype testing were conducted. The programme also featured goodwill messages from STNG Voices and partners, as well as television and radio interviews to further spread the campaign's message.

The campaign recorded 395 registered participants, including youths, health professionals, dignitaries, influencers, volunteers, and other stakeholders. More than 50 people received free genotype screening, while the campaign reached thousands more through television, radio, and social media coverage. The event also strengthened collaboration with organizations such as the Najay Care Foundation and Nigerian Red Cross Society.

Overall, the Plateau State STNG Awareness Walk successfully brought sickle cell education, genotype awareness, community engagement, and preventive health advocacy directly to the public, positioning the campaign as a youth-led and community-focused initiative for building a healthier next generation.
